on death

I’ve started taking notes on Anwar al-Awlaki’s lecture series on the Hereafter. I’m trying to keep it to the main points, but i’m pretty sure it’s going to get lengthy. It’s beneficial stuff though, inshallah.

-Belief in the aakhira is a pillar of our faith. Prophet Muhammad (saw) said “If you know what I know, you would cry a lot and laugh a little.” It is mentioned of Ali ibn Abi Talib (ra) that he said “It wouldn’t make a difference if I see jannah in front of me- I wouldn’t love it more. And even if I see hellfire in front of me I wouldn’t fear it more.” i.e., Ali (ra) had absorbed the meaning of Jannah so much that it wouldn’t make a difference if he saw it; He was living in this dhunya as if he was seeing Jannah and hellfire in front of him.

More to come inshallah.
