Imam Zaid Shakir
We recently had Imam Zaid Shakir visit our school and give us a short lecture reminding us the importance of our relations with fellow muslims. Some points:
-the one who looks down upon his fellow muslim is degrading Allah’s creation.
-we are depicting the character of Iblis when we think that we are better than another muslim.
“So the angels bowed down, all of them. But Iblees did it not. He showed haughtiness and became a rejecter. God said: O Iblees, what stopped you from bowing down to the one whom I created with my hands? Was it your pride [that stopped you] or are you among the elevated ones? He said: I am better than him. You created me from fire while him you created from dust.” (Sa’d 39: 73 – 76) And we all know Iblis’ fate from there..
-The Prophet (saw) said it is sufficient for a person to be called a liar if they repeat everything that they hear.

- what if you are looking down on a non muslim – are you still degrading Allahs creation ?? As far as i am concered muslims think that everyone is a muslim before birth – so i dont know why it should be speciel if its a muslim…. geeezzzz”!
I didn’t say anything about non-muslims in the post. The issue was discussed by Imam Zaid Shakir in the context of relationships and manners between muslim brothers/sisters, so I don’t see what the problem is.
[btw, "speciel" = special]
